Family, wannabes, friends, and supportive locals make up the roster of sideline watchers at running events. With May’s Leeds Half Marathon, I was one amongst the crowd.
Phones, iPads, and good old fashioned cameras are common finds, as are clapping, signs, and shouts of encouragement.
“You can do it!”
“Way to go!”
As 13.1 miles is not in my current running repertoire—at least not yet—I played the role of Michael’s pit crew, head cheerleader, and official photographer; the last of which, I made a valiant but failed effort.
I did succeed at yelling and clapping as Michael ran past, mere yards from the finish line.
To quote adorable girl next to me, “WooHoo!”
